Victor Vaissier oval ceramic soap dish, decorated with a lavender design. Features purple lavender flowers and a ribbon with the text "Lavender", "Paris", and "No 205".

Originally used as a perfume or soap dish, but often used today as a decorative trinket tray. These are very sought after and often used as display props in homeware stores, florists, etc.

While the graphics and lettering on the dish replicate the brand's original Art Nouveau cosmetic typography from Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the ceramic hardware itself was produced as a mid-to-late 20th-century retro revival piece (1970s).

Historical significance:

The Victor Vaissier brand carries the name of its founder, who set up the brand in the late 1800s in Paris.

The luxury soap brand became famous for its beautiful packaging and exotic fragrances inspired by Monsieur Vaissier's travels to Japan, Congo and Samoa.

Victor Vaissier was a skilled perfumist and he created more than 20 fabulous scents, including popular fragrances such as Princes of the Congo, Rose de Kioto and Violettes de Samos.

The brand became the official soap supplier to the King of Belgium, the Tsar of Russia and the Royal courts of Romania around the early 1900's.
